Featured speaker – General Russell Honoree of the Green ARMY Children are welcome! There is an area dedicated to kids’ activities. WHY: Louisiana has been controlled by dirty, polluting industries for far too long. Other states are innovators in renewable energy and businesses that don’t harm the environment. Louisiana, however, continues to prioritize the oil, chemical and coal industries at the expense of our health and our environment. “The oil industry has wreaked havoc on our state and it’s time to change that,” said Anne Rolfes of the Louisiana Bucket Brigade. “Earth Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the good work of New Orleans’ environmental groups, learn about alternative energy, and make the case for a strong green economy and reduced pollution here in Louisiana.” The focus of the festival is to heighten New Orleans’ understanding of the need for environmental protection and community involvement. “Solar Alternatives is very excited to provide clean, renewable energy to this year’s Earth Day Festival,” said owner Jeff Cantin. “This year Solar Alternatives will power several vendors and exhibitions, and even one of the stages for festival goers. Solar Alternatives will also display a portable solar generator that features two types of solar collectors and will charge up the company’s fleet of 100% electric vehicles for folks to get a close-up look at.” Cantin added, “Imagine filling your car’s tank with sunshine at no charge!”
The Louisiana Bucket Brigade uses grassroots action to create an informed, healthy society with a culture that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution
