The New Orleans Food Co-op truly believes in the healing power of food…and groceries.  That’s why, as a true cooperative, in addition to focusing on member needs, we also work for the sustainable development of our community through policies accepted by our members.  Specifically, we…

  • Promote local and regional food production
  • Keep capital and jobs in our community
  • Practice environmental responsibility and sustainability
  • Honor and reflect our unique and diverse members and communities
  • Purchase wholesome, organic, local, fair trade, environmentally sensitive and socially responsible products
  • Offer a variety of necessities at basic prices
  • Promote awareness about food, nutrition, and health
  • Provide a workplace that fosters opportunities for participation, empowerment, and growth in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation

Currently almost 1,000 people have invested in the store and this community by becoming members. These member/owners have provided the capital to fund our start-up.  And as owners, they are entitled to a say in the organization and ongoing operation of the store.

When you shop here – even if you’re not a member – you’ll find over 5,500 local and regional products and foods including fresh, local produce, seafood, and meats; bulk foods; organic and natural foods and products; and other goods determined by members.

Remember, the Co-op is consumer owned and operated for the benefit of the community.  And since the primary purpose of a cooperative is to serve the needs of the owners – not to generate a profit – you can always expect a great selection at affordable prices.

The New Orleans Food Co-op:  Because people in a community are truly interdependent and can genuinely benefit from something as simple as joining together to improve their lives.
